In 2008-09, New Profit made four new investments, bringing the active portfolio to 17 innovative organizations that are changing the lives of children and families every day. Despite a difficult fundraising environment, and growing demand for their services, the portfolio's performance exceeded our goals for growth in revenue and lives touched. The portfolio also continued to outperform other high-growth groups identified by Fast Company magazine and the Bridgespan Group.

New Profit's work to build an environment in which innovative social entrepreneurs and their organizations may realize their full potential for social impact also accelerated in 2008-09. America Forward, launched in 2007, achieved its initial goals, fueling a nationwide discussion about innovative ways to solve social problems, and advancing a specific bi-partisan policy agenda to create the infrastructure for social entrepreneurs to scale their impact. We also continue to be excited about the potential for the developing Urban Assets Initiative to catalyze and grow effective solutions in America's urban centers.
