Molly Day
Manager, Portfolio Team
As a Manager on the Portfolio Team, Molly is responsible for the day-to-day management of New Profit’s early childhood pilot initiative. Additionally, she supports the Portfolio Team on investment selection, helping to cultivate a pipeline of high-potential social entrepreneurs and guide them through the rigorous due diligence process. Molly also works with New Profit Partners to provide strategic support to our portfolio organizations. As a little girl in Boise, ID, Molly was first introduced to philanthropy through her family’s homegrown Pumpkin, Gourd, & Squash Sale, whose proceeds benefited the hungry in Idaho. While she wishes she inherited her father’s green thumb, she luckily did inherit her parents’ deep commitment to and belief in the power of community. Cultivating this passion throughout college, Molly was drawn to ideas and people that were focused on creating and translating local solutions to the national level; thus, she made her way to New Profit to understand how social entrepreneurs spark systemic change.
Prior to joining New Profit, Molly co-founded and led campusCATALYST, an organization that offers undergraduates the opportunity to create change in their communities by partnering with local nonprofits to solve their problems. During her undergraduate years, she worked for the U.S. Department of State, Senator Barack Obama, and LIFT, one of New Profit's current investments. She also conducted field research in rural Malawi, where she explored the intersection between HIV/AIDS education, microfinance, and women’s empowerment. Molly received her B.S. in social policy and international studies from Northwestern University, graduating with honors.
Molly loves food and the adventures it engenders, whether they occur in her tiny studio kitchen or in any number of delicious local eateries. In fact, her knowledge of restaurants is so encyclopedic that her friends refer to her as their own personal Yelp! Molly also enjoys running half-marathons, planning world travels, and day-dreaming/scheming with friends at her neighborhood café. Most importantly, she is the proud mom of a spirited little pup, Sammy.
