experiment: A Gathering Of Leaders

The annual Gathering of Leaders convenes many of the nation’s leading social innovators and their counterparts in business, government, philanthropy, and academia. Designed by and for social entrepreneurs, the goal of the Gathering is to catalyze new ideas, relationships, and resources needed to strengthen individual organizations and build a collective effort to transform public problem solving on a broad scale.

At the 2008 Gathering in Miami, Florida, more than 160 participants, including nearly 60 social entrepreneurs, worked together to unleash the power of a community that has strengthened and grown since the first Gathering four years ago. A series of questions focused efforts across three days:

  • How do newer, smaller, high-growth social entrepreneurs and larger, national nonprofit icons work together to accelerate impact?
  • How can social entrepreneurs come together at the city level to demonstrate that real results and widespread change are possible?
  • How can we best deploy Web 2.0 technologies and the power of social networking to unlock the potential within our communities?
  • How can social entrepreneurs increase their “leadership multiplier” to ensure that the nonprofit sector develops world-class talent?
  • How can the America Forward coalition introduce social entrepreneurship into the national dialogue as an innovative and more effective way to solve our nation’s problems?
